Description

Our courses consist of two semesters: Level 1 and Level 2, which take place within one year and include a total of 37 classes. Typically, students complete a year of lessons before moving on to a more advanced course. However, in some cases, if their teacher believes they are ready, they can advance earlier. This is a level 2 class, students must complete Level 1 to register for Level 2.

Payment methods

Please choose one of the following payment methods upon registration:

Block - 1 payment every 5 classes

Semester - 1 payment twice a year (Please note: price varies depending on number of classes per semester)

Block: By choosing this payment option upon registration, you'll have a payment due every 5th class*. To ensure your enrollment, subsequent payments should be made no later than the day of the last paid class. You can conveniently make payments over the phone, online or at the reception desk. Please be aware that if the payment is not received by the day of the last paid class, your spot within the group may become available for waitlisted students.

Semester: By choosing this payment option upon registration, you will benefit from a discounted price per class. With this option, you’ll make payments twice a year, aligning with our two semesters. A full year consists of 2 semesters; the fall semester includes 16 classes and the winter semester includes 21 classes. This payment option is available for selection until October 2nd, 2023 for the Fall semester and until February 12th, 2024 for the Winter semester. After these dates, the semester payment option will no longer be applicable. Please refer to Block payment for more options.

Early withdrawal fee: In the event of an early withdrawal before the final paid class, a fee of $35 will be applicable. The remaining amount corresponding to the unattended classes will be transferred to your family credit account and can be used towards any activity at our school.

Mechanics for beginners Level 2
Age group: 6.5 - 8 years old
What we study:
This course introduces key concepts of mechanics through the construction of mechanical prototypes. Students in this course will study different machines that are present in their everyday life, such as an elevator, or crane.

A look into the class:
The beginning of the course follows a presentation animated by the teacher, in which children will learn about something different every week. For instance, in one class they may take a look at the elevator. The class will analyze and discuss how it works, the history behind it and then the essential parts that create movement. They will then start their build, working autonomously using instructions on an Ipad to complete their builds. The teacher is there to provide guidance and answer any questions they may have while encouraging questions and discussions.

What do we achieve:
What we achieve: In this course, children are introduced to simple laws of physics. They will start to familiarize themselves with different types of motion (rotary, oscillatory, translational), simple mechanisms and types of transmissions (e.g. gear, wheel and axle, block, lever, pulley and straps, inclined plane, gear/belt/worm/rail transmission, crank and ratchet mechanism). They will then use critical thinking to apply their new knowledge to their builds. Using active discussions, children will develop language and teamwork skills.
